About Danny Topperberg

Private investor. Chairman of Voxen Energy. Based in Sydney and Hong Kong.

In short

Danny Topperberg is a private investor and the Chairman of Voxen Energy, a private investment company in pipeline gas, LNG and the infrastructure that moves them.

He has spent about twenty years working across property, resources and cross-border capital.

Background

His first serious deals were mineral off-take agreements, negotiated with Chinese state-owned enterprises during Australia’s mining boom. He was young enough then to think the hard part was the price. It took a few years, and one genuinely bad outcome, to learn otherwise.

Much of his work since has been at the physical end of the energy chain: terminals, supply contracts, and the restructurings that follow when a project underdelivers.

That is where he learned that the contract matters more than the asset, and it is still how he reads a deal.

As Chairman

As Chairman of Voxen Energy he leads the board and sets how the company looks at deals: what it will consider, what it won’t, and what has to be true before it commits.

The deals he looks for are ones where the commercial structure is as sound as the engineering. Firm supply, a buyer who can pay, workable terms with the state, and a realistic path to financing.

Outside energy

Outside energy, his private investments include hotels and property.

How he works

Three things he checks before the model.

The contract, the price, and whether the other side does what it said it would do.
